*** John Kerry Supports The Troops As Special-Education Cases Ed Morrissey
John Kerry has never hidden his contempt for the armed forces very well, not even when he served as an officer in the Navy. Yesterday the mask slipped a little bit, as John Ziegler at KFI notes on his website, and Allahpundit mirrors at Hot Air. At a political rally for California's Democratic challenger to Arnold Schwarzenegger for governor, Phil Angelides, Kerry told the Pasadena City College crowd to study hard and get an education -- or wind up like the losers in the military: ...
... Wow. Just wow. It's worth recalling that Kerry at one time aspired to command these same men and women from the White House, and claims to still want to lead them. How would these people react to taking orders from a Commander-in-Chief who believes them to be uneducated, lazy losers?

Glenn Reynolds writes: JOHN KERRY -- a gift that keeps on giving. Unfortunately, it's a gift for the Republicans. . .
Kerry's suggestion that the troops in Iraq are dumb failures is not only reprehensible, but false on the facts. In other words, a typical Kerry performance, just in time for the elections. Democrats must be wondering what they were thinking to nominate him in 2004, and why he won't go away now.
UPDATE: John McCain's office sends this demand for a Kerry apology from Sen. McCain: Senator Kerry owes an apology to the many thousands of Americans serving in Iraq, who answered their country's call because they are patriots and not because of any deficiencies in their education. Americans from all backgrounds, well off and less fortunate, with high school diplomas and graduate degrees, take seriously their duty to our country, and risk their lives today to defend the rest of us in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere. They all deserve our respect and deepest gratitude for their service. The suggestion that only the least educated Americans would agree to serve in the military and fight in Iraq, is an insult to every soldier serving in combat, and should deeply offend any American with an ounce of appreciation for what they suffer and risk so that the rest of us can sleep more comfortably at night. Without them, we wouldn't live in a country where people securely possess all their God-given rights, including the right to express insensitive, ill-considered and uninformed remarks.
A major blunder for Kerry and the Democrats, timed to do maximum damage to them and maximum good for the Republicans.

I've posted many times before that I have never been interested in investigating what he claimed he did during the Viet Nam War (I know many of you disagree with that). I still hold that it's what he did afterwards that makes him unfit for public office. His lies, protests, lack of support while in office, and his treatment of our troops while a Senator (yes, the story of how he treats the air crews is true) are certainly enough evidence that he is a huge, huge, tool...and, certainly, unworthy of your support.
I've said it before, I'll say it again. Veterans Day came a week early in 2004 when former and present military kept him from being President of the United States. Instead of being the POUS, he's just a POS.
And, now (as if we needed it), we have more evidence of how much disregard he has for the military. ...
*** John Kerry's Continuing Contempt For the Military Confederate Yankee
Lurch just can't keep his contempt for our brave soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines hidden any longer. “You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”
This mindblowingly stupid comment comes courtesy of Allahpundit, who also has Kerry on audio and video over at Hot Air.
I hope that members of our military keep in mind that Kerry is only articulating sentiments that many on the far left have held over and passed down to future generations of service-hating leftists since at least the Vietnam War era, and that our military can voice its displeasure with Kerry's "fellow travelers" at the ballot box exactly one week from today.
If Kerry's backhanded slap at those in uniform isn't a call to get "out the vote" for our brave servicemen and servicewomen and those who support them, I don't know what is.

*** Kerry's Bush-Bash Backfires as Snow, GOP Fire Away at Troops 'Stuck in Iraq' Comment FOX News
WASHINGTON — An attack on President Bush's Iraq policy by Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry erupted into a verbal dogfight Tuesday between the failed 2004 Democratic presidential candidate and administration spokesman Tony Snow, who Kerry called a "stuffed suit White House mouthpiece."
It is just one of several nasty proxy battles between Democratic and Republican leaders in the run-up to next Tuesday's election.
"What Sen. Kerry ought to do first is apologize to the troops," Snow told reporters Tuesday, referring to a comment Kerry made a day earlier while campaigning in California for gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides ...
*** GOP, Kerry launch war of words over Iraq comment CNN
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Republicans unleashed a firestorm of criticism Tuesday against Sen. John Kerry after the Vietnam veteran told college students they'd "get stuck in Iraq" if they didn't work hard in school.
Kerry later said the remark was a "botched joke" meant to target the president, not U.S. troops.
Before the clarification, White House press secretary Tony Snow, House Majority Leader John Boehner and Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, lambasted the four-term senator and demanded he apologize.
A CNN poll suggests that Iraq is the second-most important issue behind the economy as voters ponder for whom to cast their ballots in next week's midterms.
"This is an absolute insult," Snow said at a daily press briefing. "Senator Kerry not only owes an apology to those who are serving, but also to the families of those who've given their lives in this."
Boehner said the remark was "insulting" and called on "Democrat candidates across the country" to publicly denounce the comment.
"These Americans who are risking their lives in the fight against terrorism in Iraq deserve better than to have their service demeaned by a United States senator," Boehner said in a statement. "Our soldiers need John Kerry's support, yet John Kerry offers nothing more than disparaging commentary." ...
*** John Kerry Jackass The Ugly American
Ok I do have something to add. It’s the coverage of the event by the Pasadena Star. News. The story mainly talks about the cast of Democratic Party stars who came out to try and help Phil Angelides lose by less than 20 points. “It’s not enough to have a governor that acts like a Democrat on Election Day. Phil Angelides will be a Democrat every single day,” said Boxer.
Sure thing Barb. But in paragraph 6 we to come to the good stuff: But while the students showed proper enthusiasm for Angelides by waving his signs and wooing and booing at the right places, the energy in the room clearly belonged to Kerry. He took the stage to roaring applause and left it only to be mobbed by students and reporters.
It is completely understandable for a group of folks to be excited about the Democratic Party’s last nominee for president. But mobbnig him after his comments?
It gets worse: Kerry then told the students that if they were able to navigate the education system, they could get comfortable jobs - “If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq,” he said to a mixture of laughter and gasps.
I wonder exactly what the mixture was. Did half the crowd think that line was funny? 25%?

America. It's a great country.
The land of the free and the home of the brave. Here, we have the freedom to do, or be, or even say anything we want. America is a land filled with opportunity; a land of plenty, and peace. A land where a young boy or girl can grow up to be an astronaut, a doctor, an engineer, an exotic dancer, or even a United States senator who gratuitously insults the men and women who gave him the precious freedoms enjoyed by every American: “You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”
Funny. I went to high school with my husband. He was a Merit Scholar with SATs in the 98th percentile. He got into every school he applied to, including (as I recall) at least one Ivy. He graduated from college with grades far better than John Kerry's, though he had a full-time job, a wife, and a baby to support while attending class. He could have written his own ticket, but he chose the Marine Corps. Of course, what would he know? By definition, he must not be terribly smart.
After all, he has stayed the course, serving his country for over 25 years instead of bailing out four months into his tour of duty. ...

He is a pathetic excuse for an American, a pathetic excuse for a politician, and a pathetic excuse for a human being.
Why don’t you let us take a look at your WHOLE military record Mr. Kerry? What are you afraid of? That the world would see what a real coward you were, running from a fight, asking for medals for a splinter, leaving your fellow comrades in Vietnam while you went home to trash our country?

Sen. John Kerry held a press conference moments ago to address a controversial remark he made implying those who are uneducated serve in the military and get stuck in Iraq. *** 'I Apologize to No One' Fox News
WASHINGTON — Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry defiantly and in no uncertain terms declared Tuesday that he would "apologize to no one" for statements made a day earlier in which he told a gathering of California college students that if they don't do well in school, they will "get stuck in Iraq."
"I apologize to no one for my criticism of the president and his broken policy," Kerry told reporters in a press conference in Seattle.
*** Kerry’s botched joke Austin Bay
No kidding. John Kerry is now claiming his insult at the expense of American soldiers was “a botched joke” aimed at the President.
Sheesh. Kerry is stuck on Vietnam, almost as stuck on Vietnam as he is stuck on his own self-absorbed, narcissistic bio-mass.
Instapundit has the background.
Kerry insulted America’s defenders. When I heard the statement on the radio this morning I thought “Yeah, that’s right, run through the damn Winter Soldier put-downs once again.” (That was his movement in 1971-72, when he accused US troops of war crimes.) No, this insult wasn’t at the level of the Winter Soldier accusations, but Kerry’s “joke” plays into the Left’s view of US troops– we’re all stupid, comparatively uneducated, and in need of rescue by…by John Kerry. He’s nuanced, see?
I’m listening to his latest statement (1:30 or so CST) and it is a re-hash of The Great Litany of leftish accusations. Reaction as I listen– this guy knows he made a mistake and he’s pedaling fast. Wait– now he says he is a real man. Yeah, he basically said he’s a real man. (Get a transcript!) If he’s a real man, he has the chance to prove it. Senator Kerry needs to debate his Swift Boat veteran critics. Man to man. Now. Not later.
In the spare space of 24 hours Kerry has resurrected the Vietnam Syndrome –at least his and the left wing of the Democratic Party’s Vietnam (loser’s) Syndrome. This is stupid but particularly stupid in the last week of a national election. Doubly stupid in the midst of a long, grinding war. Kerry is trapped, in an odd sort of amber. He’s stuck on stupid and stuck in the past simultaneously. John Kerry, the stegosaurus of American politics. (Okay, I’m unfair to stegosaurs, they had backbones and spikes on their tails– but the drawing at the link is cute.)
*** Real Men Don’t Disrespect the Troops John Big Dog
John Kerry (who was in Vietnam), held a press conference and he refused to apologize for his statements indicating that people who do not get an education end up in Iraq. I did not see the conference but those who did said he flipped his lid and that he is appealing to the left wing nut jobs who are anti war. Looks like he is getting a tune up for the 2008 presidential race. Here is the text of his conference:
[...]

There is a lesson in it for us all. The pinko America hating thugs of the 60's have grown up, have huge bank accounts, and are recruiting as if their lives depend upon it. I'm almost overwhelmed at how politically tone-deaf John Kerry in posting this response on his Web site.
Almost.
Not only does Kerry refuse to apologize for slandering those serving our country, he actually has the gall to try to go on the offensive and attack those condemning his comments. As many of the "assorted right wing nut-jobs" attacking him are current and former members of the military, Kerry insults them not once, but twice.
Kerry even goes so far as to insist that those who are enraged at his slur have resorted to lies and distortions, even though his comments were captured in print, audio, and video formats. The context of his comments was quite clear, and it is disingenuous for him to try to say the video evidence he freely gave of his own accord was a distortion.
His comments devolve from there into what even reads as a high-pitched and hysterical shrieking that seems to indicate that Kerry's immeasurable gaffe is somehow the Bush Administration’s fault. Certainly, the rant will play well on the far left fringe of the Democratic Party, but it serves to alienate almost everyone else in the country that expected a measured apology, not a second attack. ...

Max Cleland, the Democrat who blew himself up in Vietnam issued a statement defending John Kerry and his slander of US troops. Thanks to Leaning Straight Up for bringing this to my attention. Here is the release: “I think people will remember John Kerry’s press conference today as the moment we Democrats stopped once and forever accepting the disgraceful smears of Republicans. John Kerry showed our Party how to fight back with the truth. ...
First thing to notice is that the words are remarkably similar to Kerry’s from earlier. Perhaps Cleland should have gotten an education so he could think of his own words to write. Relax folks, I am sure that he has an education, it is just hard to put it to use when your brain is numbed with the kool-aid. The next thing that stands out is the blatant lie that John Kerry has been an advocate for veterans sine he returned from Vietnam (he was there you know).
John Kerry came home from the war and called his fellow vets rapists and murderers. Did that grenade rattle Cleland’s brain so badly that he has forgotten Kerry’s anti war, anti American activities that likely earned him a dishonorable discharge (we might actually know if this honorable man would release his records like he promised). How is it supportive of our troops to protest against them, to meet with the enemy, and to be held up as a hero by that very enemy? *** President Bush Responds to John Kerry's Repugnant Comments
President Bush struck back at John Kerry after he made his unbelievably crass remarks about our military men and women in Iraq: In the mist of a heated campaign season, there are somethings we should all be able to agree on, and one of the most important is that every one of our troops deserves our respect and our gratitude.
Yesterday, my opponent in 2004 presidential race, Senator Kerry, was speaking to a group of young people in California. I want you to listen to what he said. He said, "You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."
