Obama Offers More Variations From the Norm

PHOENIX, Oct. 23 — Senator Barack Obama, the Illinois Democrat who said Sunday that he was considering running for president in 2008, created a little sunlight on Monday between himself and both Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton.

For one thing, he said that as a youth he had inhaled. ...

The stuff of legends
Paul Mirengoff

Yesterday, Fox News contributor Mara Liasson described Barack Obama's "life story" as "compelling. Believe me, she doesn't know the half. Check out Big Lizards and learn about Obama's boyhood in war-ravaged Hawaii; his daring double major in political science and international relations at Columbia; his tragic and devastating defeat in a 2000 congressional primary;  ...

... Talking about Sen. Barack Hussein Obama, jr. (D-IL, 100%), Mara managed to blurt out that he had "a compelling life story."

After I ceased choking and extracted the Crazy Straw from my larynx, I ran to my infallible source, Wikipedia, to see whether there were some extraordinary event in Obama's brief life so far (he's younger than I, another reason he cannot be allowed to win the presidency).

I confess, I was surpised at what an adventurous, danger-filled life he lead, the things those oyster-eyes of his have seen. I learned a great deal I had never known about Obama. I think that after you hear about his disadvantaged upbringing and his sorrows, that you, too, will wish we could give him some sort of prize... other than the presidency, of course, since he's way too liberal and has virtually no experience. And there's that age thing, but I think I already covered that.

Obama was born in war-ravaged Honolulu in 1961 (what did I tell you?) His father was a Harvard economist, while his mother was an anthropologist from Kansas; yet despite this deprivation, Obama has gone on to be one of the most celebrated men of recent history. ...

Obama: Because He Can!
Contributed by The Gray Dog

Why does a dog ………  Never mind!  The answer is; because he can!  And there you have all the motivation needed for Barak Obama to dip his pinkie toe into the 2008 presidential election stream.  Right now the water feels “just right.”  But how long before this liberal lightweight begins to feel the heat?

Obama’s being handled right now and doesn’t know it.  He’s starting to believe his own press because his liberal buddies are hand feeding it to him everyday.  Yes, he is charming and yes, he is attractive and finally; yes, he is well spoken.  Who are the last national political figures that this attribute was hung on?  Colin Powell?  Condoleeza Rice?  Well spoken, seems to be the new catch-phrase of the soft bigotry within the political set. ...

Obama for President?
Steven Barnes

The most recent issue of Time magazine trumpets the idea that Senator Barack Obama could be the next president of the United States.  Clearly, in terms of charisma, the man is a rock star.  And I like the fact that he seems to be a straight-shooters, who speaks plainly and intelligently on a wide variety of topics.  I’ll have to do more research to decide if I’d want to vote for him on more than a knee-jerk level.

But it’s interesting to note the similarities between Obama and Colin Powell.  Both were born to fathers raised outside America (Powell’s parents were Jamaican, Obama’s father Kenyan.  In other words, both men would have avoided much of the emotional poison that infects black American males. Obama’s father, particularly, would have access to tribal stories, lines of ancestry, and a sense of self completely beyond most descendants of slaves.  It’s not surprising that these two men are, arguably, the most respected black American males.

But could Obama be President? ...
