Arab Holocaust expert barred from Iran conference

Holocaust Scholars Are Not Welcome In Iran
Ed Morrissey

The Iranian regime hosts its Holocaust denial conference this week, the long-promoted effort of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The Iranian president says he wants an unbiased look at the evidence of the Nazi genocide of European Jews during World War II, and he's inviting every nutcase in the Northern Hemisphere to attend the conference. However, one Palestinian has found his invitation withdrawn:

An outspoken Palestinian lawyer was hoping to challenge Holocaust deniers during a provocative conference that opens in Iran today. The international gathering will question whether six million Jews were actually slaughtered by the Nazis in the Second World War.

But yesterday Khaled Kasab Mahameed learnt from the Iranian Foreign Ministry — which had invited him to speak — that he would not receive a visa. No reason was given. ...

It’s on today in Tehran. Check the photo wire — the Reuters photog sure does seem interested in the rabbis who are there, huh? Here’s one for the cover of the next shareholder statement:

The good news is, Iran’s decided to go whole hog on the denial. I was worried they’d admit a few token real historians to legitimize the proceedings, but they’re laying their cards on the table: David Duke is set to deliver a keynote. The State Department and German Foreign Ministry have already condemned the proceedings, and one Palestinian jihadi recently released from an Israeli jail is begging Ahmadinejad not to go through with it lest he discredit the Palestinian cause. Too late, bro.

The one potentially interesting moment was the prospect of Khaled Mahameed addressing the faithful assembled, but that’s been nixed: news broke yesterday that the Iranian government has denied him a visa without offering a reason why. Who’s Khaled Mahameed, you ask? ...

Video: Iranian students heckle Ahmadinejad
Allahpundit

I tried to do better for you but this quickie from Fox is the best I could come up with. Too bad. Sounds like the event was a barnburner.

According to the student news agency ISNA, Ahmadinejad responded to the students’ chants of “students can die but they do not accept degradation” by lashing out at the United States. ...

Judging from the posters visible in the video, the pro-regime students outnumbered the dissidents pretty substantially. It takes a brave man to stand up in this situation; god bless the few who did.

The sign reads, “Fascist president, Polytechnich is not your place.”

I’m surprised this made it out of the auditorium and onto the airwaves. That’s encouraging, at least.
