Is Jimmy Carter Telling the Truth?

On Friday, former President Carter released a letter to Jewish leaders that addresses the controversy raised by his new book (PEACE NOT APARTHEID), which was published on November 14. I'm not interested in his defense of his portrayal of Israel but in a claim he makes at the start:

During my recent book tour I signed more than 100,000* books and was interviewed on 100 news media outlets. ...

... No. He didn't.
