Democrats' 2008 Electoral Edge in Doubt

WASHINGTON (AP) - The races for both parties' presidential nominations are showing signs of tightening. Yet a closer look at the numbers also reveals intriguing crosscurrents that raise questions about how solid the presumed Democratic advantage may be in November 2008.

Surveys show that people would clearly prefer that the Democratic Party win the White House next year, which political operatives and analysts attribute to the deep unpopularity of President Bush and the war in Iraq and a broad desire for change.

When top Republican and Democratic candidates are paired, however, the GOP hopefuls generally do quite well or at least hold their own.

Next year's Election Day is eons away in political time, and many things could happen to alter today's dynamics. For now, the surveys leave it unclear whether the apparent Democratic edge would really hold up should GOP candidates with moderate credentials like Rudy Giuliani or John McCain face Democrats such as Hillary Rodham Clinton or Barack Obama. ...

A Mini-Interview With Angela McGlowan, Author Of Bamboozled
John Hawkins (H/T: Michelle Malkin)

On Friday, I did a phone interview with Angela McGlowan to discuss her new book, Bamboozled: How Americans are being Exploited by the Lies of the Liberal Agenda. What follows is an edited transcript of our conversation.

In your book, you promise to expose, "the scheme liberals ran to con minorities into loyally supporting a political party that despises their most deeply felt values." What is that scheme?

Angela McGlowan: It is a love affair between liberal politicians, the liberal mainstream media, and bamboozling. Let me tell you how it historically happened. ...

Richardson: Strength Through Surrender
Ed Morrissey

Bill Richardson made his appearance on BlogTalkRadio's Heading Left show this afternoon, and he spoke about his position on the Iraq war. Not surprisingly, he favors a complete deauthorization of the war, along the lines proposed by Hillary Clinton and Robert Byrd. However, Richardson would go even farther than most Democrats. He would pull American troops out of Baghdad, but also from Anbar and Diyala, where they face al-Qaeda terrorists and where we have made a lot of progress in engaging the local tribes.

Here's Richardson on his vision for Iraq: ...

Run, Chuck, Run!!!
Dean Barnett

This is the best political news that the Republican Party has heard in six months since the 11/7 apocalypse: Chuck Hagel will consider running for president as a third party candidate. Intuitively, this might strike conservatives as bad news since Hagel is a Republican (giggle) and thus would by definition peel off more votes from the GOP’s candidate than the Democrats’.

But it wouldn’t work like that. Through six years of preening and lecturing and hectoring, Chuck Hagel has a lower Q-rating in conservative circles than Madonna. But there’s something deeper at work here.

It’s liberal America, especially the far left, that has a passion for anti-war voices who have worn the uniform. The Daily Kos spent the 2006 cycle recruiting anti-war Iraq veterans to run for Congress. The Democrats nominated John Kerry in 2004.  ...

There are two things we know about the Democratic nominee: First, he or she will be anti-war. And second, he or she will not be a veteran. Even in their lower tiers, the Democrats don’t have a candidate who served. If they did, that guy would move up to the top tier in a hurry.

The modern Democrats are very fond of their Absolute Moral Authority™ rubbish. Some of them will be drawn to the fact that Hagel can tap this much more effectively than their nominee. ...

Allahpundit has thoughts here.
