*** *** Fold (but please don't spindle or mutilate) *** *** Muslims Shouldn't get Rights Denied other Religious Groups Kim Priestap
But, as the Examiner points out, Muslims all over this country are getting special treatment that Christian and Jewish groups are routinely denied. The principle of separation of church and state in tax-funded institutions has been upheld in more than a dozen Supreme Court rulings. As a result, overtly religious symbols of mainstream religions such as Nativity scenes, the Ten Commandments and menorahs have largely been banished from the public square on the grounds that they offend unbelievers.
But many public colleges and universities have been quietly accommodating some students' religious activities while ignoring or even trampling on the First Amendment rights of other students.
For example, last year administrators at the Minneapolis Community and Technical College banned a coffee cart operator from playing music "tied to Christmas," but approved the use of tax dollars to install special basins for Wudu so that Muslims could ritually wash their feet before prayer. College President Phil Davis defended this glaring double standard by absurdly insisting that ...
It's clear why universities and other institutions are granting privileges to Muslims that they deny other religious groups: they're terrified that Muslims will declare jihad and dispatch suicide bombers to blow up the schools and their students if they refuse to submit to the Muslims' demands. Let's face it. Most people are becomming terrified of Muslims. The Islamofascists have convinced us that any Muslim is dangerous, ...

*** The War: Plus Ça Change, Plus Ce N'est Pas la Même Chose Hatched by Dafydd
Much ado is made of a point -- a cliche, in fact -- that I thought should be fairly obvious: The longer we fight, the more -- and the faster -- the enemy adapts to our methods; but so too, the more and faster we adapt to the enemy's adaptations.
Some Democrats appear to find great cause for rejoicing in the first part of this truism; they hope it signals imminent defeat, allowing them to get on with the urgent task of capturing more seats in Congress and electing a Democratic president. However, by ignoring the second part of the truism, they set themselves up for the catastrophic possibility of America winning.
Let's take a single example: ...

*** Iraqi insurgents warn: Stop search for U.S. troops
BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- The Islamic State of Iraq -- a Sunni insurgent coalition that includes al Qaeda in Iraq -- issued a statement Monday saying it is holding three American soldiers and warning the U.S. military to call off its search.
"Your soldiers are in our hands. If you want your soldiers' safety, do not search for them," the Internet posting said.
The soldiers went missing after an ambush Saturday on their military convoy in a volatile region south of Baghdad. Four U.S. soldiers and an Iraqi soldier were killed in the attack outside Mahmoudiya. While the insurgent group offered no proof that it is holding the soldiers, U.S. military spokesman Maj. Gen. William Caldwell said Monday that the military believes al Qaeda in Iraq or an affiliated group is responsible for their abduction.
"This assessment is based on highly credible intelligence information," Caldwell said.
He said thousands of U.S. and Iraqi soldiers -- backed by everything from air support to dog teams -- are searching for the soldiers.
"I cannot promise you that these efforts will produce the results we all are praying for," Caldwell said Monday. "But what I can promise you, the American people, and particularly the families of these missing men, is that we are doing everything we can to find these brave and courageous soldiers."
On Sunday, Caldwell said the search team includes at least 4,000 U.S. troops. ...
*** Where Is The Whistleblower Protection For The War On Terror? Ed Morrissey
Ever since the Traveling Imams threatened a lawsuit against the people who notified security personnel of their concerns over their pre-flight actions, members of both parties in Congress have spoken of the need to offer legal protection against lawsuits for those who tip off law enforcement about potential terrorist activity. Yet, as Katherine Kersten notes, they have done little to push the legislation to the floor: ... The bill's sponsors submitted it as an amendment to another bill in March. It passed 304-121. Every House Republican and 105 Democrats voted for the it. Opponents included Minnesota's Keith Ellison, Betty McCollum and Jim Oberstar.
So where is the bill now? It's stuck in a House-Senate conference committee. Last Friday, however, Sen. Joe Lieberman, a Connecticut Independent, and others introduced a standalone version of the bill, and this week sponsors plan to do the same in the House.
Americans should not have to fear legal harassment for participating in the nation's security. Given that national security is one of the few tasks that everyone agrees belongs at the federal level, Congress has the duty and responsibility to protect people who assist in finding terrorists among us by calling the police or FBI, or airport security, about suspicious activity. The failure to close this avenue of intimidation will eventually result in dead bodies, and we will then hear all about people who thought the perpetrators suspicious but feared getting involved. ...

John Edwards has a Memorial Day message that many of the troops will definitely not appreciate. The Washington Post loved it though. Enough in fact that they directly linked it from their website -- free of charge. I wonder if the other candidates will get similar treatment. Here is Edwards' patriotic message. ...

*** "Coalition forces are using every means at our disposal... Make no mistake: We will never stop looking for our soldiers..." Michelle Malkin
Following up on my post this morning, I'm embedding the video of Maj. Gen. William Caldwell's briefing on the search for the missing US soldiers near Mahmoudiya. I'll transcribe shortly: [video link]
Here’s a transcript: CALDWELL: This morning, at 4:44am in Iraq, a coalition force team of 8 soldiers—7 Americans and an Iraqi Army interpreter—were attacked 12 miles west of Mahmoudiya. As a result of this attack, five soldiers were killed in action and three are currently missing. At the time of the attack, a nearby unit heard explosions and attempted to establish communications without success. At 4:59am, an unmanned aerial vehicle observed two burning vehicles. Coalition forces arrived within an hour, secured the site and immediately initiated a search. The names of the soldiers are being withheld pending identification and notification of next of kin. Coalition forces are currently using every means at our disposal to find the missing soldiers and we will continue these efforts until all our accounted for. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those killed in this attack and for the missing soldiers and their loved ones back home.
Here are the specifics. ...
