6:45P: It looks like I'm going to have to read about the Republican debate after the fact and hope someone posts good videos of the important parts. The radar on weather.com makes it pretty clear we're going to be getting a nice thunderstorm about the time it starts, which in this area can often mean power line voltage surges capable of frying a PC. At least it's supposed to be cooler after the front passes.

*** *** Fold (but please don't spindle or mutilate) *** *** First-in-the-South Republican Primary Debate Begins With Shared Views on Iraq
WASHINGTON — Strong Republican themes like the war in Iraq and limiting federal spending led the topics at Tuesday night's First-in-the-South Republican Party Presidential Candidate Debate, with White House hopefuls trying leave an impression on South Carolina's GOP primary voters.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee led the witticisms by criticizing Congress, saying it has "spent money like John Edwards at a beauty shop," a slam on the Democratic presidential candidate who earned unwanted attention for spending $400 of campaign money on a haircut.
It was a one-up to Sen. John McCain, who said he has spoken with sailors who take offense at being accused of ever being so drunk as to spend the way Congress does.
On a more serious note, McCain sought to solidify his position as the frontrunner by saying he is willing to be the last man standing in favor of war.
"If we fail in Iraq we will see Iraq become a center for Al Qaeda, chaos, genocide in the region and they will follow us home," McCain said. "Americans are frustrated because of the mishandling of these war, but America's vital national security interests are at stake. ...
As I noted above, I had to shut my PC down to wait for a storm to pass just as the debate was about to begin so I'll be dependent on people who were able to watch it for information. It looks like Michelle Malking did a great job of live-blogging it here. Don Surber: Ron Paul, the Republican Kucinich.
