Bumper of my SUV

I've posted about Chely Wright at least once on this blog and at least three times on Small Town Veteran so I'll keep this short. It's always great to see a wonderful person get some publicity from one of the bigger blogs and I was thrilled to see this post on Michelle's site. Click that link, folks.

Video: Christina Aguilera salutes
the troops, skanky retro style

Allahpundit

They showed Abbott & Costello movies on local TV every Saturday afternoon when I was a kid so I recognized the song this is based on instantly. It’s called “Candyman” and See-Dub digs it, but the lines about making her “panties drop” and her “cherry pop” and getting it while it’s hot in an Andrews Sisters homage is a bit much for my taste.

Artwork was a collaboration of the wife of a Vietnam vet, the son of same, and the son of a Vietnam vet and Vietnamese mother! Everyone's heart is in this one.

(I'm including the front and back images below the fold in this post.)

"You Ain't Gonna Touch This Wall" has been sitting on the Old War Dogs server as draft post for three days now and I've had a hell of a time making myself wait till the right moment to post it. I'll include a copy of the words from Russ's draft below the fold.

A larger view of the front of the shirt:

A larger view of the back of the shirt:

And here's Russ's post that he saved as a draft and asked me to sit on till Ty had the shirts ready:

You Ain't Gonna Touch This Wall

Look, boy, you're free to demonstrate,
March up and down this Mall;
But, son, I'm gonna set you straight,
You ain't gonna touch this Wall.

You shout and scream all you want,
On all that we'll give a pass;
But you try some Wall-defacing stunt,
And, son, I'm gonna kick your ass.

(Chorus)
Let us make it clear, we've all come here
To defend our long-dead brothers;
And understand you ain't layin' a hand
On our Wall you leftie mothers.

Drag out that traitor, Hanoi Jane,
To screech at you pinks and commies,
And Cindy Sheehan to exploit her pain,
The Barnum of Gold Star Mommies.

And, son, you hear this loud and clear,
Don't you even think about spittin'
Less you want that smart mouth busted here,
And believe me, we're not shittin'.

(Chorus)
Let us make it clear, we've all come here
To defend our long-dead brothers;
And understand you ain't layin' a hand
On our Wall you leftie mothers.

Because of you losers we lose our wars,
Our warriors are left to bleed,
Cause of Jane and Cindy, these media whores
With their camera-craving creed.

So follow these traitors, these loser bitches,
Let them lead you to your fall;
But I promise you, son, you're gonna need stitches,
You even get close to this Wall.

(Chorus)
Let us make it clear, we've all come here
To defend our long-dead brothers;
And understand you ain't layin' a hand
On our Wall you leftie mothers.

The Glenn and Helen Show: Five for Fighting's
John Ondrasik on War, Peace and Music

Glenn Reynolds (Hat tip: Michelle Malkin)

fivefightingcov.jpgJohn Ondrasik is Five for Fighting. Unless you've been living in a cave in Waziristan, you've heard his songs like 100 Years, Superman, and The Riddle. But the title cut to his latest album, Two Lights, turns out to come from a lunch with none other than blogosphere fave Victor Davis Hanson. (There are some streamable samples at the link, too.) We talk to Ondrasik about politics in the music business, what drives his songwriting, what aspiring musicians should do to make it, and more -- including his new, about-to-launch web-video-based viral charity enterprise, What Kind of World Do You Want? (Hear his music on iTunes here.) ...

Audio: Is John Ondrasik the anti-Mellencamp?
Allahpundit

I came for the illicit thrill of hearing a popular entertainer take a moderately right-wing line, but, to my surprise, most enjoyed the chat about the music biz. I’m not a huge fan of Five for Fighting; I like “Superman” like everyone else, but the poignant piano ballads one after another can get to be a drag. A little less “Candle in the Wind,” a little more “Crocodile Rock,” you know? Seems like a very decent guy, though, and his points about celebrity political posturing in the face of an Iraqi genocide are well taken. Plus, he’s mensch enough to play Gitmo, where his performance of “100 Years” should take on a delightfully comic overtone.

Video: “Open Season” -- the anti-CAIR remix

Video: “Open Season” — the anti-CAIR remix
Allahpundit

This has been making the rounds for the past week and now Charles has given me an excuse to post it. I agree with him that CAIR’s overreacting, predictably, to “Open Season” — if the original video is the one that Basim Elkarra saw. If he saw this remix, though (which seems to have been produced by a fan of the band, not the band itself), then I can see where he’d feel a little threatened. ...

Don't miss it. The mooozlim's ain't gonna like it. At all. But I sure as hell did.

(Slow download tip: Turn your volume down, click play, do something else in another window for a while, go back to the original window; by then it will be in your internet cache and play like it oughta.)

After you're done enjoying the video don't forget to stop by http://www.stuckmojo.us/. They've got some great freebies available and if you can afford to leave a donation I'd say they've earned it.

Anti-jihad nu metal. I never thought I'd see the day.

The band is Stuck Mojo from Atlanta. The lyrics are here; the guitarist posted some thoughts about the song on his fan site. You will recognize, and appreciate, the sentiments. ...

Open Season
Music: Ward
Lyrics: Aborn, Nelson
String Arrangement: Eric Frampton

I speak peace when peace is spoken, But I speak war when your hate is provoking, The season is open 24-7-365, Man up yo time to ride, No need to hide behind slogans of deceit, Claiming that you're a religion of peace, We just don't believe you, We can clearly see through, The madness that you're feeding your people, Jihad the cry of your unholy war, Using the willing, the weak and poor, From birth drowning in propaganda, rhetoric and slander, All we can say is damn ya

My forefathers fought and died for this here
I'm stronger than your war of fear
Are we clear?
If you step in my hood
It's understood
It's open season

I don't need a faith that's blind, ...

Open Season- anti jihad music video
Uncle Jimbo

One thing I have wondered is why America has such a negative reputation overseas, yet we have the most gargantuan entertainment complex imaginable, If they wanted to make us look positive they could, but they view us as flawed and therefore project that image into our entertainment. Lately the jihadis have gotten into the i Life and started putting out some kick ass beheading and martyrdom videos. Sad as it sounds that qualifies as pop culture in too much of the Muslim world. Every once in a while you catch a little push back and Rich Ward of Stuck Mojo has got some for the Islamists

Call me an alarmist, but this is not about Iraq or the so called "War On Terrorism", this is about a worldwide movement that is compelled by spiritual teachings to convert us or kill us. It's not about Israel or America, if it was then why is this virus present in Algeria, Sudan, Somalia, Indonesia, the former Soviet Union, the Philippines, India, France, Spain and 1.5 million dead in Darfur. But I thought this whole thing was about Israel and America. Then why are Buddhist and Hindu temples set on fire and the followers of these peaceful religions attacked?.....

This video is NOT attacking Islam. This video is NOT lumping all followers of Islam in with the terrorists. No one in the Stuck Mojo organization is a racist or a bigot, but I refuse to ignore these events so as to keep from offending anyone.

If you don't like what I have to say, don't buy my album.

Respectfully, Rich Ward

His whole explanation was well thought out and delivered.  ...

Is Gibby reading the blogs? Yesterday he picked up on the Bonaduce-Truther showdown, today he’s gabbing with the man responsible for “Open Season”. Their video’s creeping up on 35,000 views at YouTube as I write this due in no small part to the blogswarm — a fact Ward himself not only acknowledges but seems genuinely grateful for.

What’s it like being the one of the few right-wing musicians in America who doesn’t specialize in country/western? You’re about to find out.

FYI, the songs from their new album are all available in mp3 format here. I recommend “For the Cause of Allah,” featuring audio of Walid Shoebat. ...

Another classic I'll post every year as long as I'm able. Listen to it here or here as you read along.

Leroy The Redneck Reindeer
As performed by Joe Diffie
Written by Joe Diffie, Steve Pippin, and Stacey Slate

Well you've all heard the story
About Rudolph and his nose
But I'll tell you a Christmas tale
That never has been told
Well you may think you've heard it all
But you ain't heard nothin' yet
About that crazy Christmas
That the North Pole can't forget

Rudolph was under the weather
And had to call in sick
So he got on the horn
To his cousin Leroy
Who lived out in the sticks
He said "Santa's really counting on me
And I hate to pass the buck"
Leroy said "Hey I'm on my way"
And he jumped in his pick-up truck

When Leroy got to the North Pole
All the reindeer snickered and laughed
They never seen a deer in overalls
And a John Deer tractor hat
Well Santa stepped in
And said "Just calm down
'cause we all got a job to do
Like it or not Leroy's in charge
And he's gonna be leadin' you"

And it was Leroy The Redneck Reindeer
Hooked to the front of the sleigh
Delivering toys to all the good ol' boys
And girls along the way
He's just a down home party animal
Two Steppin' all across the sky
He mixed jingle bells with the rebel yell
And made history that night

Before that night was over
Leroy had changed there tune
He had 'em scootin' a hoof
On every roof
By the light of a neon moon
Santa wrapped his bag with the Dixie flag
He as having the time of his life
You could here him call
"Merry Christmas Y'all
And all of y'all a goodnight"

And it was Leroy The Redneck Reindeer
Hooked to the front of the sleigh
Delivering toys to all the good ol' boys
And girls along the way
He's just a down home party animal
Two Steppin' all across the sky
He mixed jingle bells with the rebel yell
And made history that night

He mixed Jingle Bells with the rebel yell
And made history that night

May It Be
Contributed by The Gray Dog

There are hundreds if not thousands of Flash tributes circulating the blogosphere.  Tonight I humbly offer mine.  The pictures are not mine, the music is not mine and the brave men and women who are the subjects of these images are not me.  I have simply combined the artistic photographs of others and a hauntingly beautiful celtic melody with the men and women of valor to produce this simple offering.

May It Be

Do. Not. Miss. It.

A Soldier's Silent Night

I posted variations of this post here and here but it's too good not to post every year. This is what should be playing on all the radio stations instead of all that "Rockin' Shoppin' Xmas" crap they play ten times a day.  Credit these people; I just wish they thought the audio was worth leaving up all year.

If the audio player doesn't work for you

A Soldier's Silent Night

'Twas The Night Before Christmas,
He Lived All Alone,
In A One Bedroom House
Made Of Plaster And Stone.

I Had Come Down The Chimney
With Presents To Give,
To See Just Who
In This Dwelling Did Live.

I Looked All Around
A Strange Sight To See,
No Tinsel, No Presents,
Not Even A Tree.

No Stocking From The Mantle,
Just Boots Filled With Sand,
On The Wall Hung Pictures
Of Far Distant Lands.

With Medals And Badges,
Awards Of Every Kind,
A Sobering Thought Came Alive In My Mind

This House Was Different,
It Was Dark, It Was Dreary,
I Have Found The Home Of A Soldier,
I Can See That Most Clearly.

Read the rest of the lyrics here. This is an obvious adaptation of "Merry Christmas, My Friend," which I posted here, but it's very well done. Blackfive has more information here.

From my earlier post:

"The Canyons I Knew Well"

Writen and recorded 9 September, 2006

God bless this old bag of bones
I love deli smells
and the tongues of foreign émigré's ring
in canyons I've known well

God bless this old bag of bones
I remember how they shined
From an avenue these bones looked up
And thought they would stand through time ...

The Politics Of The Personal (Updated, bumped)

Pelosi endorses Murtha for majority leader
Allahpundit

What better way to assuage fears about Democrats being too dovish and anti-military than to back America’s foremost spokesman for cut and run — who once famously pronounced Haditha a case of murder “in cold blood” while the investigation was still ongoing?

We’re off to a good bipartisan start here:

“Your strong voice for national security, the war on terror and Iraq provides genuine leadership for our party, and I count on you to continue to lead on these vital issues,” Pelosi wrote Murtha Sunday in a letter obtained by The Hill. “For this and for all you have done for Democrats in the past and especially this last year, I am pleased to support your candidacy for majority leader for the 110th Congress.”…

***

House Majority Leader John Murtha?!
Michelle Malkin

They can't be serious, can they? Oh, yes they are.

The Hill newspaper reports. You deride:

Speaker-in-waiting Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) threw her support behind Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) for majority leader Sunday, giving a significant boost to Murtha in his race against Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.).

"Your strong voice for national security, the war on terror and Iraq provides genuine leadership for our party, and I count on you to continue to lead on these vital issues," Pelosi wrote Murtha Sunday in a letter obtained by The Hill. "For this and for all you have done for Democrats in the past and especially this last year, I am pleased to support your candidacy for majority leader for the 110th Congress." ...

And more from Roll Call, which notes that Hoyer's gonna put up a fight:

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), in line to become Speaker in January, is throwing her support to Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) in the race for Majority Leader, a move that will be an early test of her influence and will weigh heavily on Murtha's contest with Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) for the post. ...

*** Update and bump. Original timestamp 2006.11.12.19:02

The Politics Of The Personal
Ed Morrissey

Nancy Pelosi surprised political analysts by injecting herself into an intraparty fight over the House leadership position. Despite Steny Hoyer's efforts to win the midterms as Minority Leader, Pelosi endorsed John Murtha to replace him in the majority. Her first effort as Speaker-elect gives a preview of Pelosi's leadership style and the importance of personal relationships over political pragmatism:

House Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) endorsed Rep. John P. Murtha (D-Pa.) yesterday as the next House majority leader, thereby stepping into a contentious intraparty fight between Murtha and her current deputy, Maryland's Steny H. Hoyer.

The unexpected move signaled the sizable value Pelosi gives to personal loyalty and personality preferences. Hoyer competed with her in 2001 for the post of House minority whip, while Murtha managed her winning campaign. Pelosi has also all but decided she will not name the ranking Democrat on the House intelligence committee, Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.) to chair that panel next year, a decision pregnant with personal animus.

It's a mistake for Republicans to consider this a battle between liberals and moderates. Murtha wants an immediate withdrawal from Iraq and has the backing of the netroots, but he supports gun rights and opposes abortion. Hoyer wants to keep the Democrats from being the party of retreat, but he supports the more liberal planks in the Democratic platform. Ideology has much less to do with this than personal ties between Pelosi and Murtha, which seems to have trumped the normal detachment that Speakers at least attempt when it comes to party politics.

That personal relationship springs from Pelosi's own bid for party leadership, but isn't limited to it. Murtha ran her campaign for Minority Leader, lending her his prestige and his legendary power gained through years of work in the Appropriations committee. That power also gave Pelosi a more substantial remuneration, as Roll Call noted last year (via The Astute Blogger):

[...]

In other words, Pelosi owes Murtha for the boost to family fortunes. She's merely repaying the debt. This should raise eyebrows on both sides of the aisle, especially since Pelosi successfully ran an election by decrying the "culture of corruption" in Republican ranks. The power of earmarks to distort American politics raises its ugly head once more, and voters who somehow thought they elected a cleaner government will understand that they put porkers in charge of the trough once again. ...

CREW blasts Pelosi over Murtha endorsement
Allahpundit

Now that the election’s safely won, they’ve stopped rubbing themselves over the Foley e-mails and turned their attention to more important matters. Like urging an immediate redeployment of Grandpa Simpson back to the House rank and file:

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) questioned soon-to-be House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) commitment to eradicating corruption with her endorsement of one of the most unethical members in Congress, Rep. John Murtha (D-PA), to be Majority Leader of the House of Representatives…

“Future House Speaker Pelosi’s endorsement of Rep. Murtha, one of the most unethical members of Congress, shows that she may have prioritized ethics reform merely to win votes with no real commitment to changing the culture of corruption,” Melanie Sloan, executive director of CREW said today. “How can Americans believe that the Democrats will return integrity to the House when future Speaker Pelosi has endorsed an ethically-challenged member for a leadership position? Rep. Murtha is the wrong choice for this job.”

A Pittance Of Time

Thank you Cookie for the mail and the video:

A Timely Video for Remembrance Day

On November 11, 1999 Terry Kelly was in a Shoppers Drug Mart store in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.  At 10:55 AM an announcement came over the store's PA asking customers who would still be of the premises at 11:00 am to give two minutes of silence in respect to the veterans who have sacrificed so much for us. Terry was impressed with the store's leadership role in adopting the Legion's "two minutes of silence" initiative. He felt that the store's contribution of educating the public to the importance of remembering was commendable.

When eleven o'clock arrived on that day, an announcement was again made asking for the "two minutes of silence" to commence. All customers, with the exception of a man who was accompanied by his young child, showed their respect. Terry's anger towards the father for trying to engage the store's clerk in conversation and for setting a bad example for his child was later channeled into a beautiful piece of work called, "A Pittance of Time".

I've received multiple copies of the video but Cookie's the only one that sent me the story behind it.  It looks better as a .wmv file but I ran into technical difficulties trying share it that way. Email me if you'd like a copy.

Helmets off to our brothers and sisters to the North for all the times they've stood beside us, recent difficulties be damned.  To the moonbats there and here: F.O.A.D.

The Songs That Got Us Through The War

For several months at Cam Ranh Bay AB I went to work at midnight and had an office to myself till 07:00. Just me and Wolfman Jack. If a day had ever gone by when he hadn't played "Horse With No Name" and "American Pie" by 05:00 I don't know if I'd have still been sane when they found me. At least there was something predictable in my life.

The Vietnam Era (60s, 70s Music)

Quite possibly the best "songs from my war" library on the web. Go there. Hat tip and a big debt of gratitude to JGTHINGS.

In March, 2005, this  song was performed at a Diamond Rio concert. They received an immediate  standing ovation, and continue to do so every time they perform it! Sadly, major  radio stations wouldn't play it because it was considered politically incorrect.  Consequently, the song was never released to the public. If this song speaks to  your heart, share it with friends and loved ones. Then let us cease being the  silent majority and join together -- not as a particular political party, but as Americans!
