Muslim protesters target embassies over cartoons
Fires set at Danish, Norwegian embassies in Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria (CNN) -- Muslim demonstrators in Damascus, Syria, torched the Norwegian Embassy and the building housing Denmark's embassy, because newspapers in those countries had published what they consider blasphemous depictions of Islam's Prophet Mohammed.

Thousands of angry Muslims protested in other cities, including Islamabad, Pakistan; Baghdad, Iraq; Khartoum, Sudan; the Palestinian territories; and Jakarta, Indonesia.

This week the US military in Europe has advised its members of possible violent demonstrations. Troops are urged to "remain vigilant to their surroundings and to move away from anything that looks like a protest or civil disobedience."

Such warnings are all too common here - similar cautions were issued during the French riots last Fall. This latest admonition is based on anticipation of possible response by Muslim communities throughout Europe to rumors that Danish right wing groups may stage a Koran burning in Copenhagen.

This is the latest turn of events initiated with the publication of cartoon depictions of the Prophet Mohammed in a Danish newspaper. For background Die Welt has a chronological (English-language) compilation of reports from the European media.

First, They Came: The Movie

I couldn't sleep at all last night, so I toyed around with Windows Movie Maker and put together a little, 2-minute photo/video montage about the Muhammad cartoons.

It's called "First, They Came"--and I hope it will speak to many around the world in a universal way.

To be continued, no doubt. It's not about the cartoons any more, it's about whether we're going to let someone else's religion dictate what we can and can't say, write, and draw. I for one am not.

Creator of all the messengers and prophets; Adam, Moses, David, Jesus and Muhammed (peace and blessing be upon them all). Enter Islam and you shall be forgiven for your past sins. Enter Islam and you shall taste the beauty of Islam not only in this World but in the life hereafter. I assure you! Follow the teachings of the Holy Quran and the teachings of the Holy Prophet while you still have time and you shall lead a peaceful and respectful life. I follow Islam, and it disturbs me that you speak about my religion in such away! But it disturbs me even more that you speak of our Holy Prophet Muhammed (peace and blessings be upon him) in a slanderous and hurtful way. Let me remind you! Those who slander and disrespect the Last and Holy Prophet of Allah, Muhammed (peace and blessings be upon him) shall taste the filthy fruits that they sowed with their own hands in this World. Then there will be no turning back! I swear by Allah in whose hands my soul lies! I shall pray to Allah, that before your final hour arrives, you see your own family entering Islam!
