Ricin at UT

I suppose as at UT grad (BSEE '76) I'm supposed to be taking this one personally. I guess if I thought the attack had actually been directed at UT I might be.

Read Michelle's post here and Jason's here to find out what I'm talking about. Quoting from The Daily Texan via Jason's blog:

... The toxin was first discovered around 2:30 p.m. Thursday when one of the students who received treatment discovered a white powder after opening a roll of quarters from a non-local bank to do laundry ...

OK, so if it was ricin, which no one seems certain of yet, it came from somewhere outside the Austin area. Someone contaminated a roll of quarters (and maybe more than one?) and sold it to a bank. A UT student, by coincidence, bought said roll of quarters at took it to UT with her. That doesn't sound to me like anyone was targeting that particular student, or even UT in general. If it is ricin, there's a terrorist out there somewhere who needs to be tracked down and hung, but let's concentrate on that aspect of things and not get fixated on the campus aspect of what happened.
