Immigrant Rights Supporters Rally Across Nation

LOS ANGELES — Thousands of people across the country protested Friday against legislation cracking down on illegal immigrants, with demonstrators in such cities as Los Angeles, Phoenix and Atlanta staging school walkouts, marches and work stoppages.

Congress is considering bills that would make it a felony to be illegally in the United States, impose new penalties on employers who hire illegal immigrants and erect fences along one-third of the U.S.-Mexican border. The proposals have angered many Hispanics. [Well cry me a damned river!]

"Rights" my ass. The only "right" anyone who enters this country without permission should have is the right to a quick trip home. That's called "enforcing the law." If anything good came out of the DPW fiasco it's the realization on the part of some Republican congresscritters that they can buck George Bush and get away with it. Here's hoping they tell him to fold his amnesty plan up very carefully so it has lots of sharp corners and sit on it.
