One more score to settle with Iran

From Power Line:

Made in Iran

ABC News has alerted us to this exclusive report by chief investigative correspondent Brian Ross that has now been posted on its site: "Iraq weapons -- made in Iran?" ABC reports:

U.S. military and intelligence officials tell ABC News that they have caught shipments of deadly new bombs at the Iran-Iraq border.

They are a very nasty piece of business, capable of penetrating U.S. troops' strongest armor.

Ed Morrissey:

Iran Gives US A Casus Belli, If We Want It

ABC News reports tonight that Iran has shipped improved explosive devices capable of defeating the body armor employed by US soldiers to the insurgents in Iraq. Brian Ross will tell ABC's World News Tonight that Iran is "knowingly killing US troops", according to former counterterrorism chief Richard Clarke:

[...]

If this can be substantiated, it will present the Bush administration with a casus belli that opens up both a can of worms and a wide range of options that may have been out of reach before this.

Dafydd ab Hugh:

Casus Belli Against Iran!

[...]

If true, then as John Hinderaker notes, this is clearly an act of war by Iran against the United States.

And, the lizards respond, the perfect casus belli whenever we choose to launch a military assault on that awful country.

We've been at war with Iran since 1979. Jimmy Carter didn't have balls enough to do anything about it and everyone since then has let it slide for one reason or another. Reagan may or may not have cut a "Give us our people back and we won't bomb you back to the stone age" deal, Bush 41 had his hands full with the Kuwait situation, and Clinton was too busy chasing tail in the Oval Office to give a damn about foreign affairs. Bush 43 identified Iran as part of the Axis of Evil in his first State Of The Union speech but considered finishing the job in Iraq more urgent. I don't expect him to do anything about Iran till after the November elections but I'll be very shocked and disappointed if he leaves office with out settling some scores, even if he has to settle for an air campaign between the election and the time a Democratic Congress is seated in January. If the Republicans still control both houses after the election look for a regime change in Iran some time next year.
