Finally, an immigration proposal I could live with (Updated and bumped) Do read A Modest Proposal at Dafydd's place. If only our congresscritters were so smart. *** Update 2006.04.09 Papa Ray left a comment that's too good to let you miss. I've formatted it the way it looked in the email copy I received and fixed a couple of typos.

Comments I've read so much on Immigration that it is all beginning to run together. But I have written yet another letter to my Senators (which I am sure somebody on their staff reads and makes little tick marks on a list and that the Senators see the tallies of the marks at some point. Here is my latest letter. Senator: First let me say, I appriciate your hard work this last few days. I hope over the holiday, you will consider these points when you get back into the immigration fight. 1. We MUST have a fence between Mexico and America. 2. That Number 1 must be passed, even if it is the ONLY thing passed and made to be a reality NOW. 3. By NOW, We mean that serious full time work begin this year. THIS YEAR, building this fence. 4. That after this is accomplished, other bills can be considered, such as: A. Removing/ striking the provision that a child born in the U.S. of A. of illegals becomes a citizen. B. That any illegal conviced of a felony in the U.S. of A. not be allowed to BE in this country, escept in a Federal Jail. Otherwise they be deported and if caught back in the U.S. of A. that they be imprisioned for not less than two years. After a bill with the above provisions is law, then you can work on the status and disposition of the remaining illegals in the U.S. of A. Today, my friends and I had coffee (as we do each and every Sunday mornig) and we cussed and discussed the mess that Congress made out of their efforts and the desires of the American people this last week. We were mad, disappointed and sad that this Nation's elected representives can not seem to accomplish one of it's primary responsibilites: THE PROTECTION OF IT'S CITIZENS BY SECURING IT'S BORDERS! We hope that you can accomplish this. Please do not give up, please make this happen. Thank you. X.X.
