Jorge, are you drinking again?

Didn't your mama tell you that little worm's bad news?

Some links and comments in anticipation of El Presidente's much ballyhooed speech tonight:

It’s Alive! Bush Betrayal Tries To Climb Out Of Coffin
By Steve Sailer

After letting Ted Kennedy and John McCain lead the fight for his illegal immigration cave-in earlier in the year, President Bush has now re-emerged to push publicly for the amnesty and guest worker plans that have obsessed him from his first days in office.

In tandem with the May Day "show of force" by hordes of marching illegal aliens, the impact on Bush's popularity appears to have been brutal.

President Bush's public approval ratings have dropped this month to Nixon-during-Watergate levels. According to the Gallup Poll, Bush's rating among Republicans has been plummeting a point per day for the last two weeks!

And yet Bush can't resist going back for more of the hair-of-the-dog-that-bit-him. He is still prodding the Senate to pass his disastrous immigration legislation—what we have called “The Bush Betrayal”. On Friday, Senate Democratic minority leader Harry Reid and the White House's main man on Capitol Hill, Republican majority leader Bill Frist, announced that the misbegotten bill they almost shoved through earlier this year is now ready again to be voted on by the Senate.

To cover up this historic sell-out of the American people, Bush reportedly will address the nation Monday night (8 pm EDT) and announce some cosmetic toughening-up measures.

Immigration: Over the Line
Bruce Kesler

I’m one of those who see immigration on balance as good for the United States, infusing new energies, potentials, and world competitiveness.

However, while also liking healthy foods and exercise, the golden mean must apply. An excess of anything, even the good, overwhelms our systems, and crowds out other healthy nourishments and priorities.

The President’s speech tonight may dispel these concerns, but I seriously doubt it.

Those doubts are increased by the latest study from Heritage Foundation, “Senate Immigration Bill Would Allow 100 Million New Legal Immigrants over the Next Twenty Years.” The study says the number may be as much as 200 million. And, that does not include the many millions more of illegal immigrants, likely to increase as such new leniencies encourage them.

Come Home, Mr. President
by Rep. Tom Tancredo

President Bush will deliver a televised address to the nation tonight on immigration policy. It is his first address from the Oval Office on immigration, and if it not successful, it may be his last.

In this speech, the President needs to do three things to accomplish his goals. There is a road to consensus and success if the President will take it.  It is not only a path to consensus -- it is a path to success for the Republican Party in November.

In his Monday speech, the President needs to make a clear break from previous speeches on the topic and come home to Republican Party principles. He needs to stop pandering to perceived voting blocs and employer lobbies and speak to the one thing all Americans agree upon: No immigration policy is workable without secure borders.

The President needs to speak to the nation as fellow citizens, not ethnic or economic groups, and tell them America will have secure borders that stop all illegal entry into our country. He needs to announce that he will federalize the National Guard in four border states to provide support to the beleaguered Border Patrol. He needs to say this will happen tomorrow morning, not next month or next year.

The second thing the President must do is ...

Amnesty S.O.S.
The masses are revolting.

By Mark Krikorian

Senate staffer: “The public is rising up against amnesty!”

White House operative: “Quick, call the National Guard!”

The president will address the nation on immigration tonight and is expected to endorse, among other things, use of the National Guard to help patrol the border.

Why such a dramatic gesture? Is there some new emergency that needs to be addressed with new methods? Has something changed in the situation along the border?

No—but something has changed in the public mood.

Michelle Malkin has some preview excerpts: Same Old, Same Old. Actually, based on those excerpts, things look a little better than I expected. At least he's talking ID cards and sanctions on employers. It's a start.

UPDATE II: The Lame Address. It is quite obvious that the Administration is not committed to border control, and are just giving us lip service. This was a lame speech with some sort of an apologist center solution where 6000 National Guard officers wi... [Read More]
