Bye Bye Ms. American Spy

Ms. American Spy
(Sung to the tune of Don McLean's American Pie)

A short, short time ago
I can still remember
How the "Plame Game" used to make me smile
And as I read those D-Kos rants
I got a big bulge in my pants
And thought maybe we'd get "Chimpy" for awhile

But then June 12th made me shiver
Fate became an "Indian Giver"
Bad news on the Internet
Precisely what I had fret!

Oh, I remember how I cried
When I thought of Wilson's "outed" bride
Something deep within me fried
The day that Fitzmas died.

Leroy The Redneck Reindeer

This is a modified version of a post from last year. Maybe some of my newer readers will be seeing it for the first time.

Listen to it here or here as you read along.

Leroy The Redneck Reindeer
As performed by Joe Diffie
Written by Joe Diffie, Steve Pippin, and Stacey Slate

Well you've all heard the story
About Rudolph and his nose
But I'll tell you a Christmas tale
That never has been told
Well you may think you've heard it all
But you ain't heard nothin' yet
About that crazy Christmas
That the North Pole can't forget

Rudolph was under the weather
And had to call in sick
So he got on the horn
To his cousin Leroy
Who lived out in the sticks
He said "Santa's really counting on me
And I hate to pass the buck"
Leroy said "Hey I'm on my way"
And he jumped in his pick-up truck

When Leroy got to the North Pole
All the reindeer snickered and laughed
They never seen a deer in overalls
And a John Deer tractor hat
Well Santa stepped in
And said "Just calm down
'cause we all got a job to do
Like it or not Leroy's in charge
And he's gonna be leadin' you"

And it was Leroy The Redneck Reindeer
Hooked to the front of the sleigh
Delivering toys to all the good ol' boys
And girls along the way
He's just a down home party animal
Two Steppin' all across the sky
He mixed jingle bells with the rebel yell
And made history that night

Before that night was over
Leroy had changed there tune
He had 'em scootin' a hoof
On every roof
By the light of a neon moon
Santa wrapped his bag with the Dixie flag
He as having the time of his life
You could here him call
"Merry Christmas Y'all
And all of y'all a goodnight"

And it was Leroy The Redneck Reindeer
Hooked to the front of the sleigh
Delivering toys to all the good ol' boys
And girls along the way
He's just a down home party animal
Two Steppin' all across the sky
He mixed jingle bells with the rebel yell
And made history that night

He mixed Jingle Bells with the rebel yell
And made history that night

A Tribute To Veterans

To Whom It Would Be of Interest,
I wrote this song to pay tribute to All Veterans and would be honored if you choose to post it on your patriotic web site.  I thank you and God Bless!  -- Jerry C.

           A Tribute To Veterans

In Vietnam, Korea and World Wars Past
Our Men Fought Bravely so Freedom Would Last
Conditions Were Not Always Best They Could Be
Fighting a Foe You Could Not Always See:

From Mountain Highs to Valley Lows
From Jungle Drops to Desert Patrols

Our Sinewy Sons Were Sent Over Seas
Far From Their Families And Far From Their Dreams
They Never Wrote Letters Of Hardships Despair
Only Of Love, Yearning That One Day Soon:

They Would Come Home, They Would Resume
And Carry On With The Rest of Their Lives

The P.O.W.¹S Stood Steadfast
Against the Indignities And Cruelties Of War
They Could Not Have Lasted as Long as They Did
If They Had Relinquished Their Hope That Some Day:

They Would Come Home, They Would Resume
And Carry On the Rest Of Their Lives

Medics, Nurses, and Chaplains Alike
Did What They Needed To Bring Back Life
They Served Our Forces From Day Into Night
Not Questioning If They Would Survive:

They Mended Bones And Bodies Too,
They Soothed the Spirits of Dying Souls

And for Those M.I.A¹S, Who Were Left Behind
We Echo This Message Across the Seas
We Will search For as Long As It Takes
You¹re Not Forgotten And Will Always Be:

In Our Hearts, In Our Prayers,
In Our Minds For All Time

A Moment of Silence, a Moment of Summons
Is Their Deliverance of Body And Soul
To a Sacred Place That We All Know
Deep In the Shrines of Our Soul:

In Our Hearts, In Our Prayers
In Our Minds For All Time

INTERLUDE:
     GOLD STAR MOTHERS GRIEVE: ENDLESSLY,
     ENDLESSLY, ENDLESSLY.......

These Immortalized Soldiers Whose Bravery Abounds
They¹re Our Husbands, Fathers, and Sons
They Enlisted For the Duty at Hand
To Serve the Cause of Country and Land:

They Had Honor, They Had Valor,
They Found Glory That Change Them Forever

Men Standing Tall and Proud They be
A Country Behind Them in a Solemn Sea
So Let the Flags of Freedom Fly
Unfurled in Their Majesty High:

In the Sun, In the Rain
In the Winds Across This Land

Years of Tears Has Brought Us Here
Gathering Around to Hear This Sound
So Let the Flags of Freedom Fly
Unfurled in Their Majesty High:

In the Sun, In the Rain,
In the Winds Across This Land

REPEAT:

In the Sun, In the Rain,
In the Winds For All Time

I would have gotten around to posting this anyway, but now that I've seen this it can't wait any longer:

The lyrics of a satirical Christmas song are brewing controversy at a local school. One parent says the words are racist. School officials in the town of Onalaska say it's just a big misunderstanding

The song is called "Leroy, the Redneck Reindeer." There are no direct references to racism in it, but one mom says discrimination is embedded in the lyrics. And she wants the song out of the school pageant.

[...]

This in one ol' boy who's had enough Political Correctness to last him a lifetime and then some. "Johnny Reb" fought all the way for a cause he believed in, and he fought as bravely as any warrior in history. The cause he fought for was States' Rights, not slavery. His descendents have every right to be proud of the battle he fought, and to fly the Stars and Bars in his memory. That "Dixie flag" isn't about slavery, it's about redneck pride, and it's going to be around a long, long time. Like it or get over it.

Update: Michelle just linked to this post. Here's hoping the server can deal with it.

Update 2:  I've found enough minor variations on these lyrics on the web to justify saying they're "in the public domain" but not a one that doesn't contain obvious typos or formatting errors. I've just replaced the excerpt and link I had posted earlier with my best shot at what it's really supposed to look like. To form your own opinion I suggest going to this Google page and reading a few of the versions that come up.

Update 3 20004.12.17.05:53:  Added the "Listen to it here" link above based on a tip from my friend Mary Ann. The page that links to also has a good enough listing of the lyrics that if I'd known about it yesterday I'd have linked to it instead of posting the whole thing on my blog.

Update 4 2004.12.17.06:32: I finally figured out the right Google search terms to find out who wrote this and added the information near the top of this post. Learn more about Joe Diffie at his web site.
